Fire Protection and Emergency Response
We train monthly to be at the ready. We ensure our gear and our equipment are in top notch working order should an emergency arise. We are GCFD!
About Us
We are a one station fire department, that is ran with a 100% volunteer crew. Our department consists of 24 active firefighters. Our jurisdiction covers the town of Gate City, VA, and portions of Scott County, VA, outside of the town limits. In total we serve an area of approximately 89.5 square miles with an estimated population of 5,000 citizens, while also providing mutual aid to our neighboring departments when requested. Our department works and trains hard so the we can fulfill our mission statement to the best of our ability by being knowledgeable, professional, and having the drive to protect and serve others.
Our Services
Public Education
We provide public education events about fire safety. Once a year we either go to a local school, or they come to the station to have the children tour station and see the trucks.
Collaborative Training
We train with other departments in the county to ensure we are ALL ready in the event of an emergency; day or night.
Our Mission
We are committed to safeguarding lives and properties by providing rapid response to emergencies including structure fires, vehicle fires and emergencies, plus hazardous material emergencies.
Want To Be A Member?
At GCFD, we are always looking for new members to join our ranks. If you are at least 18 years of age, have your own transportation, and live relatively close to town.
